Is this a good show? I thought he was great on Red Dwarf, and I've sort of been idly wondering if I should check it out for more Chris Barrie.

Pretty generic '90s British sitcom, as I recall. It's not bad, but it's not particularly memorable either, at least to me.

I love it to bits, the first five or so seasons especially - there are a lot of really enthusiastic fans, but then I have met a few people who, like the anon above, are kind of meh about it. So it's really the sort of thing you have to try for yourself to see which camp you fall into. Last I checked all the eps were on youtube.

Chris Barrie's character is very different to Rimmer (although they are both completely useless), but he is still very very funny. The structure of the show is a bit different to a lot of other Britcoms, in that most episodes build to some ridiculous (amazing) catastrophe in the third act.

It's on youtube you say? Eeeexcellent. Brittas Empire was one of my favourite shows as a kid.

Yeah, his character is unliked to the degree that a number of people have tried to kill him, but unlike Rimmer, Mr Brittas is trying really hard to help people, despite his dickishness, so it's easy enough to root for him. He's also a little more nasally.

There's also his severely depressed wife, his assistant who Believes In Him because he represents Goodness, his groupie who thinks he's like unto a god yet has ZERO hygiene, a single mother with a baby in the drawer and a literal gay couple trying very hard not to out themselves. (And failing as far as the audience and their friends concerned but not so much for Brittas.)

It's a bit proto-American Office now that I think about it.

Well, I thought it was hilarious. (Too scared to look it up on Youtube since I should already be in bed and I could be here all night... Eep!)
