(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 12:52 am (UTC)(link)Chris Barrie's character is very different to Rimmer (although they are both completely useless), but he is still very very funny. The structure of the show is a bit different to a lot of other Britcoms, in that most episodes build to some ridiculous (amazing) catastrophe in the third act.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)There's also his severely depressed wife, his assistant who Believes In Him because he represents Goodness, his groupie who thinks he's like unto a god yet has ZERO hygiene, a single mother with a baby in the drawer and a literal gay couple trying very hard not to out themselves. (And failing as far as the audience and their friends concerned but not so much for Brittas.)
It's a bit proto-American Office now that I think about it.
