Let's not forget that by the time people have been feminists or Muslims or Republicans long enough to realize there are extremists who aren't just strawmen made up to form a fallacious argument, they've usually realized that they can't change someone who doesn't want to change. Not to mention that they still have to fend off arguments from anti-feminists and anti-Muslims and anti-Republicans about how wrong they are; they're too tired to then have a go at their own side when sometimes, those people are the only ones who will let them vent their frustrations.

I'm starting to wonder, actually, about how many extremists are actually just venting on the internet. I know I've made more than one "kill all rapists" blog post in fits of frustration.

This is a good point, why it is so difficult to change someone who does not want to change. I would like to try so hard when I was younger, and sometimes it seems like it worked. But at the end of the day, what I got mostly for my efforts was a lot of stress and heartache .

It is sad to think that there are some people who can not change, but there are. The older I get, the more I realize that it is important to choose which of these people to fight with, since they are so stressful. Usually this means combating extremists who have named you an enemy, instead of the extremists in your own group.
