Actually, that is interesting, maybe I will check out that other book. I should have clarified that it is not the writing in Lord of the Flies that is terribad/awful, it is the whole situation/premise and what it all comes down to, in the end, that is just awful.

I get that is supposed to be the point, but I just found the book...devoid of hope...? Does that make sense? Like, I am not looking for it to be happy-clappy and everyone-gets-along, but it was just relentless in how awful everything was, and never let up, not even a little bit, all the way through, without even a little glimmer of daylight.

TL;DR: Too bleak for me personally.

I felt the same way anon, but I do think it's an important read. It so neatly expresses the artificial nature of our societies and how people (especially kids) will revert back to a more tribal state without that artifice.
