I like their friendship. Romance would have ruined it (ex Zutara 2.0 Makorra).

Makorra reminded me more of fanon!Zutara than their canon counterparts tbh.

I have a really hard time seeing the resemblance between the two. I mean I'm pretty sure that's what Bryke was going for, but Korra/Mako and Katara/Zuko had very different vibes to me.

Like the person said above you, fanon zutara is very makorra in vibe.

Mako isnt Zuko, but come on. His look is totally based off him and he has some of Zuko's manpain and aloofness. Plus, Korra is hotheaded like Katara and shares some other similarities, so I think they are fanon zutara in a lot of ways.

Maybe with strictly fanon!Zutara and only if you're talking about popular fanon. But while I wasn't active in the shipping wars or really in the online fandom at all at the time, I still am a fan and disagree with that particular interpretation of Zutara so I was offering my point of view. To me Makorra is very, very different.
