from my mom, who went to visit a jointly-owned apartment they bought a year ago and found some random other woman and dog in it. That's possibly where he goes every Tuesday and Friday when he's out at business dinners.

Not sure what to feel about it.

On one hand, I don't really care. He's almost 60 years old and my parents aren't that close, he can do what he likes, it doesn't impact me in any way. On the other hand, I'm a little surprised to say the least.

Could it possibly be a big misunderstanding? I don't know.

even if it was some kind of misunderstanding, why not tell your mom about the woman/dog? like "hey this lady needs a place to stay how about our apartment" or something. if it were me i would be upset, at least on behalf of my mom if nothing else. but every family dynamic is different.

Oh, god. I had to read that three times, being confused until I remembered that adultery is not just normal parent behavior they do a very bad job of trying to hide from you.

I wish I had some advice to give you, but I really just stayed as far as fucking possible from that shit.

To what extent does your mother seem to care?

If it's an issue to your mom, then do whatever she needs - i.e, talking, a hug, whatever. If she doesn't seem to care, then - let it go. It's between them and unless your mom is in the habit of hiding her emotions, maybe she's indifferent to him having a mistress or whatever.

And, really, it could just be a huge misunderstanding on her part, unless she's had some kind of notion before this about him.
