You say that people who practice are going to be better. That's maybe true on technical level, but that's the worst way of evaluating art.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-21 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, how should I evaluate art then?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-21 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
By looking at the underlying idea.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-21 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
But communicating effectively and deciding what idea to communicate are part of those skill sets I was mentioning. Those also require practice.

I still don't understand how my original post prompted you to call me elitist.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-21 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
You're elitist, because to you, an unequal state where someone is better than other, is a desirable state.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-21 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, when people start out they're not going to be good as someone who's been at it for years. It isn't desirable to be bad at something, but you can use the person who is better at the thing you want to improve on as a means to get better.

If that makes me elitist, I suppose I am then.

What the fuck?

Look, sometimes people are better at things than others. There's nothing wrong with that. It's normal.

Elitism isn't acknowledging that some people are better at things than others. Elitism is acting as if those people who are better at certain things are better people.
