I like her, but she's pretty much a psychopath. I'm not sure what Sherlock is playing at, but he has to know she didn't make any particular effort to make her shot non-lethal, and I doubt she called an ambulance. In the long run, John will be better off without her.

He's keeping his friends close and his enemies closer with her.

I hope so... There's always the chance it's just sloppy writing.

IF it’s your contention that Mary shot Sherlock to kill him,

WHEN Sherlock deduced that she purposefully chose a non-fatal shot and that she called 999 even before John did; and, though the text occasionally tells us that Sherlock has got a deduction wrong, it never does this time,

THEN, for your argument to be persuasive and not just an irrational persecution of a character you don’t like for some reason that isn’t difficult to deduce, you better be prepared with other examples of Sherlock’s deductions that you believe he got wrong without the text telling us.

I never said he was wrong. I think he's being purposely misleading.

"999"

You're quoting a guy who doesn't know how to type "911"?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-22 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Do you honestly not know that 999 is usually used as an emergency number outside of the US?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-23 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
No. I'm calling troll on somebody purposely playing "dumb American," because, sadly enough, it's fairly easy to convince others of.

lol american

You're assuming Sherlock was telling the truth when he said what he said about how it was "surgery" and she "saved his life."

I'm not assuming that at all.

Remember, he was saying that to John in front of Mary. In private, he might well have said something very different. Not saying this is necessarily the case - it could just be awfully sloppy writing - but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a reveal in s4 that turns that on its head.

And Sherlock is, of course, all kinds of admirable and so very good for John?

YeahhhhhhhNO.

That's my issue with the people who insist that they don't hate Mary because she's fucking up their ship and/or the actress is a reminder that Martin and Benny aren't secretly boning as soon as the cameras are off. They hate her because she's a bad person. Except the same people usually stan the hell out of Sherlock, and he's terrible. He's a compelling character, sure, but he's mostly shit at being a good person.

TL;DR: Hate whatever characters you want, but be honest about it.

It's odd how people keep responding to things I didn't say. I'd thought about mentioning that Sherlock isn't the best for John either, but thought it was somewhat irrelevant.

Though since you've brought it up, I would say that a rude, manipulative, non-psychopath is still an improvement over a psychopath. After all, of the two of them, who was willing to let John go and who was ok with murdering someone to keep him?
