I had the same thing happen, actually. I created a character long before I started using the Internet. A brown raccoon with purple hair. The first picture I uploaded to DeviantART (I'd uploaded him to other archives previously), someone stated that he looked a lot like Sasha. Even though, you know, she's a totally different species, lol. I'd known of the character but had never seen any similarity. I knew how militant she was about "zomgcopying!" (A lot of people from Artail are, actually. It was a huge problem for awhile)

So I redesigned him. In the end I think it was a good thing, because he has an even more unique design (at least, IMO?) even among other raccoons. So it all worked out.

If your character is a GOOD character, he will be versatile enough that you can make changes to him without affecting what made him attractive to you in the first place. Make him more unique and you'll thank yourself in the end.

(Char in question is my icon, BTW. I'm sure I'll get comments saying "well now he looks like [insert char I've likely never heard of here]" XD)
