Did this too when I first got my LJ, for a while. After I turned on the comments, I freaked out once when I got something like twenty comments at once (I thought some huge debate had started up and I'd have to referee since it was on my LJ), only to find out it was just two friends catching up with each other. So there are pros and cons to the notification system.

tbh, I find LJ confusing. I use another blogging platform, which is much easier.

They're out there, OP. Just takes a bit if searching. I assume you're talking about tumblr, where both extremes are real easy to find but even there you can find people in the moderate fandom camp.

Back when I was RPing regularly on LJ, I just relied on comment notices. I've only kept a paid account since I stopped RPing there and only really learned to utilized the tagging feature in the last year and a half since I started watching the Hobbit kink meme.
