I submitted a secret like this one ages ago (no, this isn't a case of OP stealing and reposting mine, it's a different secret, just with the same sentiment). OOTI was my introduction to musical theatre as well, and I also dream of playing Ti Moune even though I'm white as fuck, and my secret *prepares to get dogpiled* was about how I wish it were acceptable to do things like tanning for a role.

This might not be a popular opinion but...Tbh? That's not something that can, and does, cross racial boundaries. My mother was a poor, trailer trash girl who ended up getting lucky and marrying into a well off family. My dad's parents? They *still* blame her for a lot of things that had nothing to do with her as a result and it does effect how the rest of the family treats her [and to some level, me].

She's also white.

So yeah, I don't think it's horrible that it's a role you want to play because you relate to it, though I can see why it'd be a secret and why it could be problematic if you were cast into the role at some point.

I was almost in this musical! Part of the chorus until I dropped out after getting a job. Anyway. I don't think there are any other Little Mermaid-inspired musicals out there, OP. :/ At least, not in English as far as I know.

Love this secret! OOTI is one of my all-time favorites--there is literally not one sing on that recording that I FF through. ♫ But in this island, the earth SINGS! as soon as the storm ends/And when Ti Moune set out, she realized....she was walking with old friends....♫

You know there's a non-black version of the show, right? So many elementary schools with overwhelmingly white student bodies wanted to do it, they rewrote it so white kids could do it. Not sure how they rewrote it (it seems they'd have to change a LOT), but it exists.

Also this lily-white girl sings "Waiting for Life" ALL THE TIME for auditions :)

I have no idea what this is, but it looks like the one on the left is dancing to some toilet paper coming out of the other one's ass??? Help?

It's a stylistic thing related to that particular art style.
