I really agree with you, especially when you invest in a really long fic with your OTP, and during the course of the fic the couple break up and one goes off with someone, so having read the tags you assume that that this is just an angst story with a happy ending but no, it's an angst story with the OTP still apart at the end.

This has happened to me a few times and I always feel like I've wasted my time. And I get irrationally irritated with the fans who leave gushing comments about how it had to end like that and the character is so much better off with their new partner etc etc.
