It affects everyone in different ways. When mine was particularly bad after I was laid off, my anti-depressants weren't enough. I could barely get of bed or do a job app without crying or see any of my friends without feeling like they were all judging me for my failures. I could, however, read and write fic as a happy distraction from the mess of my life, and confide in my fandom friends.

At an earlier time in my life, all of my energy had to go into doing my school work in order to scrape by and I almost fell out of fandom all together.

Everyone is different. Everyone experiences depression in different ways.
