OK fs, I need a judgement call. I'm working on a fic, X/Y initial pairing, but Y/Q is endgame. HAVING SAID THAT, I really, really hate fics that (generally) give the initial pairing a hard time, and make X a douchebag only so Y/Q can be endgame. The way I'm writing it, it should be fairly clear which pairing is endgame, but I'm still trying to give X/Y an even chance, and portraying their inevitable breakup in a realistic and fair light. Should I tag both? Or, regardless of the opinion of the fic, will I incite the hatred of a thousand anons?

What I do in those situations is make a "tagging/pairings discussed at the bottom" paragraph, and say "So, X/Y is a thing, but the real focus is on Y/Q. No bashing, no ooc, etc." Well, I've done it for warnings and not relationships, but it works well.

Maybe make a note of it in the additional tags? I think as long as you're not heaping evil tropes all over X character and making them the villain of the piece, you should be okay. Just give folks fair warning on the endgame ship.

If you dare tag them, make sure you tell everyone in the first chapter that it won't be endgame.

I don't care how realistic the author writes the pairing, if it's not endgame, I will not bother with it.
