I'm completely with you on this, OP. It's gotten to the point where I will flat out avoid fics if my preferred pairing and the BIG SHIP are tagged together because inevitably, half of my preferred ship will magically morph into an abusive, violent monster and it's just not worth it to bother risking it. When half the first page of that ship is that kind of fic, it's really easy to get frustrated.
