He didn't say that. He said that he's thinking of changing the ending because the original one was too tragic, and that the manga will be longer than he thought because he wants to develop the characters. So he isn't adding fillers, it's just that instead on focusing only on the plot, he will give the characters more pages.

+1
personally, I was glad when I heard that, because I think giving a series like this a "rocks fall, everybody dies" ending is annoying and lazy writing. And character development is a positive thing, especially because this series is actually kind of sparse on that. If anything, I think he needs to shorten battle scenes because some of them are way too long and not actually very interesting.

This.

Plus is well know than in the manga industry, when an author makes a manga longer than it should it isn't because the author when "ups, too popular to stop" but because the editorial department had that reaction and pressured the author to make the story longer.
(Which isn't the case with SnK as far as we know, but if that happens? Blame Kodansha, not Isayama)

I find it hard to believe that's actually the reason though. I guess I'm just cynical but I've had too many bad experiences with neverending popular shounen shows.

But think that this is a monthly manga, not a weekly one. Unless it's "hiatus every month" like Berserk, monthly manga aren't neverending most of the time.

idk, with its kind of sales.
