No, but the OP specifically says that the money was given to help the "family get back on their feet" -- not just to help pay for her/his education.

Yeah, that too. I personally have only offered the education thing which was turned down, but the rest of my family has given more than six figures to multiple people like that. Each. Usually high school or college buddies of my father's, and things like that. It does happen.

It's not so hard to believe. Just take "third handbag this month!" from up-a-few-posts anon's story and make them generous and caring instead of selfish and oblivious. And OP managed the money really well, too. It doesn't always end up like a Judge Judy case.
