I personally wouldn't want to be a companion because I know I'd do something dumb and get myself killed within the first 5 minutes of an episode. They're pretty damn dangerous adventures. Although I dunno, maybe a quick picnic with the Doctor wouldn't be too bad.

This is how I feel too. I'm a coward and all the exploring wouldn't be worth the terror. Also I can't run and that wouldn't be compatible with the massive amounts of running the Doctor and his companions have to do.

Just make sure you don't travel to said picnic via TARDIS, that it's in a definitely safe place/time with definitely no possible alien plots, and preferably a place/time neither the Doctor nor the TARDIS picked out. It won't 100% rule out the chances of death and dismemberment, but it'll at least improve your chances some.

You know the TARDIS is pretty reluctant to landing itself in perfectly ordinary boring time and places. She'd surely find a way to just toss herself a bit more to the left or right and land a few years ahead and on top of an angry alien just to ruin your picnic with her doctor.
