Re: Walking distance

Depends on the weather and how safe/walkable the area is. My view also used to be longer before I owned a car. When I lived in Boston, it wasn't unusual for me to walk 1-3 miles to get somewhere I wanted to be, even if public transit was an option (which it usually was - Boston is awesome that way, but I was a college student and too cheap/poor to fork over 85 cents for T fare if I didn't have to). I moved back to the Midwestern US and got a car and my typical "walking distance" shrank to only about half a mile! I have, on occasion, walked as far as six miles home from work on days I didn't have my car simply because I was too impatient to wait for a bus and the weather was nice.
