Yes, but given how old the Doctor is vs. how long his companions last, in a normal human life-span that'd be the equivalent of someone you know for a few months. You might not think of them as hamsters, but be honest... how much do you honestly cherish that one person you worked late shift with at McDonald's your junior year of high school? How about your best friend from the second grade who moved away in grade 4?

I still remember with fondness my best friend in grade 2. I was the one who moved away at the end of that year.

I also still fondly remember my best friend of grades 3 through to 6 (she changed schools to a high school with a good music program).

I had a good friend who moved away in sixth grade, and I still think about her and remember her fondly. I also think about and remember fondly a few of the people with whom I worked my summer job in college (one in particular. Last I saw her, eight years ago, she had gotten engaged and was moving to North Carolina. I hope she's doing well).

Your comment actually makes me sad. Do you not cherish the people from your past? Do you not think about them if they left your life under a minimum time?
