Re: Walking distance

[personal profile] pantasma 2014-03-25 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the city is within a half-hour's walk of where I live, now. I didn't know this until a couple years ago, though, when I finally got my ass off campus and was living with my (ex)partner, who walked EVERYWHERE. It was a great way to learn the city, and now I know it almost as well as my campus.

Now, it's mostly a matter of time, but I can walk anywhere within a half hour if I have a destination, and 4-5 hours if I don't. It's great fun, when the weather's nice.

So far as new routes go, I look up the bus route first, then decide if it's an area I would comfortable walking it, depending on the time of day, how virile I'm feeling, and how much stuff I'm carrying (vs. putting it in pockets). I hate carrying stuff with me in the first place, but there are some parts of town I flat-out refuse to carry a bag. It just invites unwanted attention, even if they are only asking for hand-outs.
