OOC - yeah that's a stretch. Though I'll admit to reading them if the plot is cute or interesting enough.

AU - "nothing to do with canon" is kind of the standard AU, isn't it? Either way, I love AUs. I love when authors can take characters and plop them down in any interesting scenario and still manage to keep them in character. It's just...fun. And interesting. I can see why someone wouldn't dig 'em, but they are one of my favorite types of fic.
