Maybe the ones who are not very self-aware (or, to use the BBC Sherlock phrase--which I hate BTW--"high-functioning" enough) would not, but I do recall seeing this one documentary where a scientist used a lot of brain scans and psych evals to try and diagnose psychopaths (not quite the same thing as sociopaths, but same spectrum), and ended up diagnosing himself. So, at the end of the docu, he basically admitted, yes, I am a psychopath, and I don't particularly care about people beyond myself, etc. He was quite upfront about it, and eerily upfront about the fact that he wouldn't be a serial killer or smth b/c that would not serve his purposes, and his purposes as a psychopath are Look Out For Number One. (This is absolutely correct.)

Assuming Sherlock is very intelligent (in-universe), assuming he reads widely and is interested in psychological profiles of people, then it is fair to assume that (in-universe) BBC Sherlock has "done the research" and come up with the fact that he is exactly what it says on the tin.

....Which is exactly what Moffat said in an interview for series 2, in fact, Moffat even stated he thought ACD's Holmes was a psychopath. Which was right at the point I quit watching, since they were doing an injustice to the character, all the way around.

TL;DR: Maybe Moffat's projecting a little too much? Hah!

Was that the guy who was looking at the brain scans and had the genes of some serial killer?

ayrt

Yes, that's the one. ISTR he also had a matching brain scan, and his family basically verified that, yes, he was pretty sociopathic in his ways. The glee he discussed this with was...kind of eerie, tbph....

NAYRT, nor any other anons in this thread--my only friend is basically this. I've known her pretty much my whole life, and I wish I could just not associate with her anymore, but we work in the same city in the same field and know a lot of the same people. If I could afford to pack up and move and not leave a forwarding address I would, because watching her get more and more open about not giving a shit about anyone or anything beyond herself and her goals is super creepy. Also, having someone who's basically using me be my only friend sucks balls, but I have a boatload of issues that make making new friends torture for them and for me. I'd do better if I didn't have a conscience either.

I'm glad that, even if she gets the head-honcho job she's aiming for, she still won't have enough influence to do a lot of damage. So, so glad she didn't become a lawyer, politician, or cop, but on the other hand, I have to work with her. She's admitted to wanting the top dog job so she could order people around, do what she wants with no-one to contradict her, and fuck with people she hates. And she hates at the drop of a hat.
