by micro/macro, are you just talking about smaller businesses/local businesses v. huge famous corporate beers like Bud and Miller and all that?

No, micro/macro actually refers to the batch size, not the company size.

Although macrobrews (ie. Bud Light) tend to be made by large companies with huge factory breweries, it's really more about the idea of a standardized recipe with all sorts of quality controls, focus testing, etc etc. Some people prefer the term "craft beer" instead of microbrew, although to me that sounds like a gimmicky marketing term since there's an undeniable craft even in producing a macrobrew to exacting specifications.

tl;dr a microbrew is a limited run, small batch product which tends to have more of a varying/experimental recipe. It's usually made by smaller, independent brewers, but larger corporations also put out microbrew products (for example, MillerCoors and their micro product lines such as Third Shift).
