(Anonymous) 2014-03-27 04:50 am (UTC)(link)HOWEVER, there are some select shows which either canonically have AUs, or which I personally need AUs as a coping mechanism. Example of the former: Stargate. Example of the latter: ASOIAF, ALL MY FAVES ARE DEAD OH GAWD. So for ASOIAF, although a lot of AUs written set my teeth on edge because they have no reason for existence other than fluffy wish fulfillment, and the writers don't have a grasp on the characters and how they'd be different in those situations, there are a few very special AUs which manage to make it so that my faves are all plausibly alive, or else in a modern universe that still holds true enough to the original 'verse that I can read it.
tl;dr sometimes it's OK/necessary for AUs especially when your Creator/God/Writer is a homicidal maniac.
