I remember reading a fanfic about British politics a while back, written by an American. There were some funny minor scandals in it that were pulled from actual British political scandals (i.e. something about a guy appropriating funds to build a moat for his home), and the author had some Brit-pickers to help her out. In the 'DVD' commentary, she mentioned finding these hilarious, and how she explained her amusement to her Britpicking friends by telling them about some of the latest American political scandals, which were along the lines of what you just mentioned.

Apparently, for a while they didn't believe her - it read too much like political drama and crime novels for it to be true.

Gotta love American politics, because no matter what happens, at least we're not boring! :P

And I have no idea, I either did awfully or wonderfully. :D
