If this was shot in Spain, southern Italy or Greece or Cyprus the people would look pretty much the same, you know.

You're so ignorant it hurts. I can't speak for Cyprus or Greece, but I have lived I have been in both Spain and Italy and their people are white. The slaves from the show are from Morocco, they are Arab. White and Arab people look nothing at all. There are a lot of Moroccan people in Spain and they are completely different.

They stink. According to my Spaniard friend most of them stink like they don't shower .

Spaniard here, I can confirm it. Not all of them, of course, but a surprisingly high percentage of them aren't very pleasant to the nose.

My friend is Arabic and has pale skin and dark hair, so you'd be factually wrong there.

If they had flown in white actors to be the slaves, people would be complaining about that, too.

They so would. Something along the lines of depriving the locals of income.

I think people who are concerned about minority representation in Game of Thrones would be more interested in seeing actual roles, roles that aren't defined by how ~exotic~ (often in sexual, barbaric terms both in the book and series) they are. Maybe even notable leads.

Of course they would. SJWs aren't happy unless there's 'social justice' to rage on about. If they'd flown in white extras, Team!Racist would be pacified but then you'd get other pissed off SJWs raging about how the 'white' production company flew in their 'own people' instead of giving an economic lift up to the hundreds of 'indigenous' people available in Morocco.

Okay, so SJWs get mad about everything? I wouldn't deny that, and I don't think any series should cater to SJW - who are by definition extreme.

That doesn't mean every single racial consideration should be tossed out the window. What they SHOULD have done is had people representing multiple skin colors, including white, among the slaves. There. Eliminate, for the most part, blatant racial undertones and weaken the obvious White Savior argument. And, to humor your argument, casting locals. Everyone wins.

It isn't racist? They put out a local casting call for extras, most of the extras were dark skinned because that is what the locals are. They aren't going to go out of there way to fly in non-locals for extras just so some people on the internet don't get their panties in an uproar.

also: there are white people in Morocco, fyi. if they didn't want to make a racial statement, maybe they would've had a variety of races, including white people, represented among the slaves like the books.

But... Dany's portion of the story occurs in great expanses of grassland and desert with some coastal cities. Were they supposed to film it in Iceland?

as I said, Morocco has white people, too. if you seriously think only brown people were available and that's the only reason why the slaves are brown.... wow.

That scene has about 1000 extras. There's 1000 white people in Morocco willing and available to be extras in this scene? They can all nick off work for the day to make sure that that your delicate sensibilities remain intact, is it?

I have no idea what you mean by "white people in Morocco" because every time I read about what SJW consider "POC" and "white or white-passing" it's something completely different from what most people in the region they're talking about would call it.

People in the region don't even have skintone hangups in the first place.
