Fandom is a lot of fun, as long as you think of it as a hobby rather than the spiritual core of your existence.

(BTW, There were fun things about PIF (pre-internet fandom) too, things that are still around if you're in certain cities where people can meet IRL, or in a uni that has fannish clubs), but there were plenty aspects of PIF that that were not as much fun; e.g., writer having to wait a year for reviews of their stuff to come out in various print 'zines was a bit of a drag. :p))
