Well there's always the other contender of BI, which is The Last of Us, which to my knowledge doesn't have the main protagonists dying at the end, just a whole lot of morally dubious decisions being made (I think, haven't actually played/watched it). Either the first Deus Ex game or Human Revolution can work, as does the mass effect series if depending on how the ending of the 3rd game plays out for you. I think Dragon Age Origins might be something worth looking into, though haven't ever finished it nor have I played the second game. Perhaps the original fallout game, the others aren't quite as serious as the first one, at least not without quite as many "adult-ish themes" as you put it. Sleeping Dogs might also be worth a look, if you don't mind some extreme, though not necessarily gory, violence as well.
