Re: How much water do you drink daily?

I'm confused. Isn't carbonated water an option? (Is that even common in the US? I never thought about it, but in my country, carbonated water is pretty much the norm but I guess that's not the case everywhere.)

Technically it is an option - but it's pretty gross on its own to most people, including me, and so it's used as a mixer rather than drunk on its own. I usually add some fruit-flavored syrup to it to make italian sodas.

Our carbonated water is pretty great (depends on the brand, though) but I guess that's both a matter of taste and what a country's water brands are like - there are different kinds, too, lightly carbonated, strongly carbonated and comletely flat and the lightly carbonated is pretty gross and tastes like stalewater. That one is the norm in France, for example.

The carbonated water I've tasted, both from bottles and the stuff they use in soda fountains, has a distinctly sour/bitter flavor to it - in fact, that's how you can tell when a soda fountain's syrup is running low. The stuff doesn't just start tasting watered-down, it actually starts tasting really nasty and bitter.

It may be something to do with the carbonation method. I've been told, in fact, that the reason Pepsi and Coke aren't the same drink is because there's a different base for the carbonation, and that's why people have a preference for one over the other despite the fact they're both cola.

Though either way, even if carbonated water just tasted like water that was fizzy, I'm not sure I'd be interested. For one thing, if I'm going to be drinking something, in general I'd just as soon it had some flavor. For another, I'm desperately trying to gain weight and it's better for me to drink stuff with calories when I can. ;)

I guess it's really a matter of what you grew up with, too. Some of the waters we have here taste pretty sour and I like them, but I also drank that stuff since I was a little kid and rarely had soda. Probably all of those reason thrown together XD

That would explain the way Coke tastes so different from Pepsi - I always that I disliked Pepsi because compared to Coke, it tends to be a little less/differently carbonated. One mystery solved!

My mother is the same - she hates plain water, with our without fizz for the same reason. I personally don't enjoy soda except with very specific dishes (and I don't want to gain weight haha) - so YAY for different tastes!
