Such is the current state of the anime industry. It sucks but otaku and to a lesser extent fujoshi are the only ones foolish enough to pay those ridiculous prices for their anime. So of course the industry will pander to them.

It would be nice if the more original stuff that came out didn't bomb so hard. /forever bitter about Kyousougiga bombing.

Not only the anime industry, it's pretty much the same with books, movies, tv shows... Most of the time only generic moronic crap gets popular, good interesting things bomb.
