Dungeons and Dragons vs. Magic The Gathering

Which would you consider more socially acceptable? Which do you think is more popular? Which do you think is most expensive?

D&D is more socially acceptable, Magic is more expensive. As to which is more popular... I guess D&D is more widely known and probably has more players. I don't know. From what I've heard I'm pretty sure Magic is much more profitable but that's not the same as more popular.

I think Magic's format hurts its quality as a game pretty significantly - the fact that the release requires the developers to continually churn out new content, and to plumb the depths of the design space and invent new concepts, leads to a lot of dumb stuff and questionable design, and makes it impossible to maintain any kind of coherence within the game as a larger whole. And for me that makes it less enjoyable, although I know that's part of its appeal for a lot of people.

On the other hand I'm not crazy about D&D as far as RPGs go either. So it is what it is.

D&D more acceptable, Magic more expensive. Popularity, not sure which would be more but I'd lean towards D&D.

As I recall, MtG was more socially acceptable ten years ago, but when D&D saw a resurgence in popularity (along with the rise of "nerd culture") it definitely became the front-runner. It's definitely more socially acceptable to play than MtG at this point.

D&D is more popular, Magic is more expensive, I'm not sure which is more socially acceptable.

For the record, I play/have played both.

1 - neither is inherently socially unacceptable if it's not discussed or performed in public, as that's what makes it 'social' in the first place, and it depends on who is talking about it or playing it and how

2 - d&d is more popular as in more people know of it and about it to varying degrees, but mtg has more diehard fans

3 - mtg.

Lol I thought Magic was more socially acceptable. I don't really know, though, I've played both. But some "normal" (?) guys at work used to play Magic during breaks or free time, and I'd sometimes play with them.

Yeah, I thought so too. My bro used to play so Magic seemed relatively normal. But this was like, 15 years ago when we were kids, and I've heard so little of it in the meantime that I thought it went into obscurity. Kind of surprised to see a resurgence (maybe?) of it now.

I often feel that, in America at least, M:TG is essentially "the game that almost everyone used to play"
