Thoughts on a regular concrit thread?

Thoughts on a regular concrit thread/Where to get concrit?

As many people have brought up before, via secrets or other discussion, strong reviews and concrit have been much harder to get lately because of a strong anti-concrit tendency in fandom culture, and people being too afraid of being slapped down to offer up concrit even if the author asks for it.

I know there used to be concrit communities and such, but most of the ones I've seen are pretty much dead - not to mention they're usually fandom specific, and while fandom knowledge is obviously important for reading fanfic, it isn't always necessary to read a story and figure out what the author should work on.

What are your thoughts on a regular concrit thread here? Maybe a once-a-week thread where people can post links to their work and ask F!S specifically for constructive crticism and productive feedback, what to work on, tips for the writing process, etc., rather than 'just reviews'.

Any of you feel like this is something you could get into?

I don't write much anymore but I'd be happy to read and offer concrit if someone posted something. How much help I could be depends on the fandom though.

I could review* so I am in for that at least.

*as in giving concrit not just that was great or not great way...

I think the idea is brilliant. However, I would personally be hesitant to participate. There are juuuust enough trolls in these here parts that I'm not sure the good would outweigh the bad.

Well, this is one of those "the more there are, the better it is" situations. If you saw trolls kept to a minimum over time, would you consider that an encouraging sign to participate? :)

I suppose it would depend on how detailed you'd want the concrit to be. Someone who wanted a full beta might have to create a Google doc and open it up to inline comments instead of expecting responses here.

OTOH, if you just want someone to say "your sex scene feels like it could be any two people instead of these characters", then it sounds like a good idea.

I won't speak for other authors, but I know that if/when I want that sort of thing, I do actually get a beta (or at least try to). But betas usually focus on little details and such. The thing about review/concrit thing is that that kind of feedback tends to be more bigpicture focused, which was why it was so valuable, so it's the kind of thing a concrit thread would lend itself too.

I like it , I mean I don't like bogging down people with all my writing related stuff, but I really do like conversations about writing and stuff, and having a place to go. I feel...attention grabby when I make a thread about a writing thing myself.

Well, the purpose of this kind of thread would be "attention grabbing" for the purpose of improving your writing, so if this gets going, attention-grab away! :)

Oh nice! Sounds good. I just worry too much about annoying everybody.

I think I'm interested because I do love talking about writing with people, but I admit I'd be wary about posting my own writing here.

Would at least reading other people's works and offering up some concrit seem acceptable, even if not posting your own work? I can definitely see that this is something that would take time to build up due to wariness, but I do feel like it has great capacity to grow and be an encouraging writing space over time.
