Re: I feel dumb
(Anonymous) 2014-03-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)I'm not sure if that's a matter of intelligence so much as interest and/or experience? People might make connections or references because they find the way things link to each other interesting, or because they think this particular type of art is fascinating and want to see how to connects to other stuff and/or connect it to other stuff so other people will see how cool it is. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're smarter than anyone, just that they maybe find different things interesting and like to connect them to things other people find interesting.
I end up making a lot of allusions/references, I think, but that's because a) my brain is a big tangled ball of stuff I've read and watched and I honestly have trouble pulling single things out of the mess without dragging other shit along with them, and b) sometimes I just find stuff really cool and want to put it in the middle so I can see it and feel happy, or share it with other people.
If you don't like the same things in the same way, it doesn't mean you're dumb. It just means you like different things a different way, or that you haven't met the same things so you don't know if you like them yet.
