Yep! It is based on the real-life Brooke royal family that actually ruled North Borneo (modern-day Sarawak) as sovereign rulers for a literal 100 years.

Yep, we are the only country that literally has the Mighty Whitey ruling as kings over a native population. Strangely though, a lot of people liked Brooke rule and there were even assassinations against the British when the country was given up to London. The Brookes were paternalists and incorporated systems of tribal rule into the system wherever possible, so this made the natives have a say in the administration. When the British took over after WWII, no one liked to have that removed.

What do you make them for exactly? Just for fun or for reference?

For fun mostly; I really like to think "what could've happened if X did this or Y didn't happen?" and make alternate history scenarios in my head. Sometimes though, I make some maps out of sheer admiration for an author's stories the subject of which may or may not appear in my secret next week?It has maps on the background.
