You're basically saying that almost every show with young/cute girls has otaku pandering.

Also, the girls were not helpless, and their suffering wasn't fanservice because it was a fucking integral part of the plot. It wouldn't have worked without suffering. Like, it may have appealed to otaku as a peripheral demographic, in the same way that a lot of shounen shows appeal to fujoshi, but I don't see how you can say it was catered towards them in any way.

Yeahhh, you probably haven't watched a lot of anime. That, or don't know much about otaku.
Also, noitaminA isn't a late night block.

SA
And even then, noitaminA has shows that pander to otaku too. Guilty Crown, anyone?

Da

Guilty Crown isn't that good of an example. black rock shooter anime would be a better one.

... what about Guilty Crown pandered to otaku? Seriously, that's one of the LEAST pandering shows I can think of from the last few years.

Please, Mr amazing anime expert, explain to me why Madoka panders to otakus. Because casually dismissing me and telling me I'm wrong without giving any explanation is not doing a very good job of convincing me or anyone else.

Also a quick google tells me that Madoka aired at around 1:25am, 5 minutes later than Samurai Flamenco, 10 minutes later than Tsuritama and Guilty Crown and a bunch of other noitamina shows.

I think 1 AM is pretty late by just about anyone's standards.
