Re: Publishing a novelization?

If you want to ask, go ahead. But I can assure you with almost 100% certainty that the answer will be no. It's not just a matter of signing over your share of the profits, movie novelizations are a bit more complicated than that. For one thing, they're rarely written by people who aren't already published authors. Even if you were a professional writer with several similar (SF/adventure) and reasonably successful novels under your belt, chances are the answer would STILL be no because this isn't a job you can apply for. They'll already have their shortlist of potential writers, and they'll also likely have a set plot or defined story limitations mind for if/when they publish another.

You're not the first person who's ever wondered if there's a way to make money off their fanfiction. Unless we're talking about canon already in the public domain, chances are that no, no you can't. Filing the serial numbers off something like Iron Man would be difficult, and Marvel/Disney has enough lawyers to sue your ass from here until the end of time should they feel the inclination to do so.

If you want to have fun and play around in the Marvel universe, then write the fanfiction, post it somewhere and enjoy! If you want to publish your own books, skip the fanfiction and write your own books. Do it now, not "someday". Best of luck to you, OP.

That's just it, though - I'm not asking about publishing a fanfic. What I am asking about is, if I already have a novelization (as in, directly based off the movie itself, not a fanfic of the movie) I wrote for my amusement, what are the chances I can get it professionally published in some manner without being sued?
