Horror Recs?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-29 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for a particular tone more than subject matter. Does anyone know of any shows or movies that manage to maintain a steadily creepy or eerie air, more than gore or overt horror? I'm thinking something like Nosferatu or Picnic at Hanging Rock, the drifting eerieness thing. TV shows in particular would be good, but I can't think of anything off hand that manages to hold the creepiness over the longer arcs of a show.

Do any of you guys know of anything?

I feel like the X-files isn't an exact fit, because a good bit was overtly horror, but then again, a lot of it was just deeply creepy.

The Others
The Conjuring does have some out and out horror, but it's very atmospheric as well
The Woman in Black
The Awakening

The show "True Detective" did the Southern Gothic/cosmic horror thing really well. It was also an exceptionally satisfying show, so I highly recommend it.
