Isn't it usually the other way around, though? People who prefer a relationship as platonic saying that romance would "taint", "degrade" it or whatever?

Granted, I haven't been paying a lot of attention to Bleach fandom recently, but I thought that it's the same there.

yeah, it was the core of the show for me and when it stopped being the focus i lost interest

Platonic or Romantic idc, i just want Rukia and Ichigo to spend more time around each other.

I platonically ship them (friend!shipping?) for the exact same reason. I love that the main male and female characters are incredibly close friends without it being romantic and I really want it to stay that way. Their relationship is perfect the way it is.

I hope Kubo keeps it platonic instead of following the trend of canons pairing main characters simply because they're different genders.

I always think that's so silly. Shipping or not shipping doesn't change the product itself so who cares whether somebody ships or doesn't? I also think, though, that you can feel like and appreciate that a relationship is profound and meaningful even while shipping it. Most of the ships I like, I only like them because the platonic relationship between the characters is so deep.

I love that people want to see more m/f platonic pairings, but it makes me kinda sad that lately this seems to be the poster child for them because I love Ichigo and Rukia as a couple. :/

Ha, I feel the same way about Abbie/Ichabod in Sleepy Hollow. I love a lot of platonic M/F duos but they're the one couple I ship that everyone else is like, Hopefully they'll never get together! Sighhhh.

Both characters have other concerns right now with what's going down in the manga, but the strength of their bond has been emphasized a lot. I don't know if it's going to end up with any canon pairings, but I'd say these two still have a good chance. (I don't actually ship them, but I could see it going that way.)

I also like this interpretation of their relationship. Whether or not you think there is more going on, there is no denying a deep friendship between those two. I tend to view Orihime and Ichigo as having more romantic leanings, though that one is very ambiguous too.

Are you kidding me people still can't see nothing but black and white? There's always a chance, in any pairing that's out there, to be platonic in someone's eyes. Geez I'm so tired of the 'closed-mindedness'...
