Perfume and Colognes and Stuff

(Anonymous) 2014-03-30 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Today seems to be cosmetics day so yet another one:

What is your opinion on all those fancy fragrance products? Love them? Hate them? Any favourites?

Re: Perfume and Colognes and Stuff

Personally, I love the idea of perfumes, but I'm very picky and most of the ones I tried give me terrible migraines, even though I like the smell of some of them.

I found a few that I really love. My favourite brand is Demeter - I love their natural fragrances. Those I really love are: Thunderstorm (only in autumn/winter, though. Don't like the smell in summer.) Oud, Rain, Firefly and Jasmine. I think some of the Demeter fragrances are great but I would prefer to have them as the athmosphere scents. But it's hard to get my hands on Demeter stuff because they don't exist in my country and the shipping is so terribly expensive...

And recently I found another perfume that I really love - it's Un Jardin après la Mousson by Hermès. But damn, it's expensive. I mostly visit the store once in a while to stare mournfully at the pretty bottle and steal a spray or two...

I generally wear either perfume or body spray. My favorite perfume is probably Lucky You (Which is also pretty cheap as far as perfume goes. Amazon has it for like $12 for a 3 ounce bottle. Not bad). Victoria's Secret has a lot of really good smelling body sprays. They can be pricey but they have pretty good sales on them every once in while. They all have silly names like "pure seduction" but they smell great

Hate. So much hate. And it doesn't help that I'm allergic to the stuff they use for one of the more common scents.

I haven't worn perfume since middle school. I kind of want to start doing it again, but I have no idea what brand or scent I'd want. I know I'm not really into fruity scents, so that's a start?

Hate 'em. They always make my eyes water/nose burn on top of smelling bad. Plus everyone I run across who wears them seems to feel the need to bath in the stuff.

Personally, I like Pacifica's blood orange perfume/body lotion/etc. I use the roll-on applicator for the perfume, so hopefully I'm not bothering anyone. ^^;

I'd like to get my hands on a grapefruit perfume/lotion, though; I like the smell of grapefruit.

Yes, I did!

If it's a pleasant scent that's just enough to get a light, brief whiff off of someone when they pass by -- or if they are incidentally a little closer than usual -- cologne and perfume can be awesome. It's not always a turn-on, but it almost always hits some reptile-brain part of me, doubly so if there's a scent of the person themselves underneath (and they smell clean, lol). Though some perfume components make me feel like sneezing.

I like food and some spice scents for myself, and I've been told sweet food smells work well on me, like one that was meant to have a sugared almond smell.

I bet you can imagine just from looking at that picture how horrible this smells.

Now imagine you are 11 and just moved to a new school and instead of making a good impression and being crowned the Queen of Coolness, you had a bottle of this open in your bag

do you know how long it stunk up the classroom

it wasn't just my homeroom that used that room

the entire sixth grade was in there at different points in the day

imagine being hated by 80 or so people

And I'd do it again too. THEY DARE LAUGH AT MY POKEMON CARDS?

for real though it probably stayed in the room for one day and I'm pretty sure they got over it

But I was a classy kid, as you can see.

I have a really sensitive nose and weird allergies, so if I'm within 10 yards of someone spraying any kind of perfume, air freshener or cleaning fluid, I get really bad sneezing/coughing fits and my throat gets all tight. Same with scented candles and some lotions. It kinda sucks!

I love perfume! But not if someone sprays so much of it it sets my allergies off.
But perfume just smells so nice - my favourite is called Caviar III and my mum bought it for me in ...somewhere in India I think... so I'm going to be really sad when it runs out cause I can't find it online :(

I love perfume and switch my scent every six months or so - you remember things better if it's accompanied by a specific smell, so I sort of use them as memory benchmarks in my life.

Right now, I'm using Chanel Chance that my mom got for me. It's not my favorite, I was going to swtich to something new soon. My favorite perfume so far is probably Dreams from The Body Shop. Burberry has some great scents, too.

I used to collect free perfume samples and even used them about once a year or so. After moving all of them have been lost though and I am too lazy to get new ones or buy myself a real bottle.

My sense of smell is terrible, so I can't really pick out fine differences and such in perfumes. I just use body spray, and I usually spray it on me until I can smell it - at which point it's probably too much - then put my clothes on over it, so it comes off (I hope) as a little more sedated or subtle.

I can't stand perfume/cologne. It makes me sneeze and my sinuses hurt and just, no. I resent people that wear a ton of it and make me sneezey and miserable in their company.

I don't really like perfume or colognes, and I hate it when someone puts it on too heavily or if there are a few people nearby all wearing clashing scents. The absolute worst thing though is AXE body products and their existence has made me suddenly appreciate cologne simply for not being the absolute most pervasive stench on the planet anymore.

I have a Dior and Channel fragrance that an aunt got my for my 18th many years ago and while I don't wear them often I do like the smells, I just tend to save them for like special occasions(weddings/birthdays and stuff like that).

Love it! I usually wear David Yurman Fresh or Daisy by Marc Jacobs. (I prefer Fresh, but I have a rollerball of Daisy, so I usually end up wearing it.)

I used to wear Quelques Fleurs as my first signature scent; I inherited my grandmother's bottle and loved it.

Diptyque's Eau Moheli is a new favorite; I've only had a sample of it, but I adore it. If I ever get around to polishing off the 80 million samples I have lying around, I will definitely purchase the full size.

Mostly dislike as nearly everyone wears way too much of that shit.

I admittedly do wear it, but it's always put on in the least offensive manner possible: on my underwear. Sometimes you need that extra insurance against sweatstank or want to smell professional without making someone gag.

I used to wear perfume in middle school, but I haven't really bought any since then. I'm more into scented body creams and lotions, I love Bath and Body Works' stuff.

My taste in perfume reaaaaly doesn't match my paycheck.

I like Chanel no 5 (yes, shut up), but only when I dress to impress. Other than that, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil by Hermès. I really want to try 24 Faubourg, but it's hard to get your hands on.

I used to have a candle in a scent called "Tuscan Garden" that I really liked (IDK what happened to it!); it was herbal and woodsy, slightly earthy, and if I could find something that smelled like that, I would wear it.

Also, have always wanted to try Messe de Minuit, just because I like the idea of it.

I'm wearing an impostor version of that perfume Jennifer Lopez sells. I can't stand her but I like the perfume.
