Comics - what are you reading?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-30 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
There have been some secrets about comics lately and I'm curious. Which titles are you currently reading?

Re: Comics - what are you reading?

I was doing a lot of backreading on Marvel but now I don't have the time so I'm trying to keep up with the following titles:

Marvel:

Daredevil
Hawkeye
Deadpool
Thor: God of Thunder
Wolverine (I don't recommend it, but I can't quit it)
Savage Wolverine

These just started:

The Punisher
Black Widow
All-New X-Factor

Image:

The Walking Dead
Lazarus

And I'm excited about the upcoming Elektra solo. Looks stunning.

A majority of DC's output up to July 2013 (I'm slowly catching up!)

Namely:

Action Comics
most of the Batman comics (I dropped Batman: The Dark Knight, it sucked) and Batfamily books (dropped Catwoman for being terrible)
all of the Green Lantern comics
Flash
Aquaman
Green Arrow (though I skipped a couple Ann Nocenti issues -- she's also why I dropped Catwoman)
Wonder Woman (definitely one of the better books in the bunch)
Justice League
Justice League Dark
Swamp Thing
Animal Man (just finished Rotworld!)
Suicide Squad (considering dropping)
All Star Western (why is nobody talking about this?)
Earth 2
World's Finest
Dial H (which is fucking WEIRD, highly recommended)

I also occasionally dip into Invincible, The Walking Dead and I'm going through a colourized version of Akira.

Oh I didn't know Nocenti was writing for DC. I hate her Longshot mini with the rage of a thousand suns, but apparently people love it.

I don't know how she got work for DC. Must be blackmail.

Between her and Scott Lobdell they're doing a lot to bring the quality of writing down at DC. :|

No Justice League International? You do have Guy as your icon. I'm surprised. (Love Booster Gold, by the way.)

Finished that ages ago. Shame it was cancelled.

Dammit. I'm behind. (I just read volume one and I am hunting for volume two.) And it was cancelled?! JLI never gets any love. Poor Booster.

Wonder Woman
The Flash
Justice League
Justice League International
Batman
Superman
Action Comics
Aquaman
Injustice

...yeah, I like DC

But I also like Hawkeye, Deadpool and Journey into Mystery from Marvel. (Which strange enough, remind me of DC comics...)

Yeah, I just caught up. I need to get on Year Two. Holy Hell, I have no idea who is worse; Superman being a huge dick or Wonder Woman being a tad too bit blood thirsty. (She scares me. I love her. But she scares me.)

Re-reading spider girl right now. By which I mean Mayday, not Arana.I havn't been able to get into any current ongoing comics for a while. because marvel and DC are... not appealing to me right now. I think I've bought more Avatar / Warren Ellis material over the last couple of years than anything from the big two.

Warren Ellis' Avatar stuff is the stuff of legend at this point.

Freakangels and Black Summer. And it's not Avatar but Global Frequency was awesome.

I need to have more time so that I can get back to the library to read some older stuff. Currently I'm reading...
Black Widow
Captain Marvel
Ms. Marvel
All New X-Men
Loki, Agent of Asgard

and I will be getting Iron Patriot (and for some reason I'm thinking another that I can't remember at the moment?) when I next pick up my comics from my local store.

I'd love to read more (like X-Factor), but it is just too expensive to have too many. I really shouldn't even be buying these, honestly.

Have you heard of Marvel Unlimited subscription? For a small price you get access to their entire digital library and it's only a few months behind on their current titles.

I've heard of it, but I haven't really checked into it. Partially because I am not super fond of reading comics digitally. Partially because I assumed it was expensive. Partially because I don't even have the time to find/read comics from the library right now. I looked it up just now, though, and the annual price isn't that bad for what it is offering. If work slows down enough that I have some free time, I might do it. Thanks.

I found some Tintin albums recently and an old hellboy collection
elaminator: (Rat Queens: Betty (exasperated))

Rat Queens, Hawkeye, Lazarus, Saga, Ms. Marvel, East of West, Mind the Gap, Revival and the Star Trek Ongoing series. I'm sure I'm leaving out a couple things, but that's the major stuff. I'd like to get back into reading (old) Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, etc, but right now there's no time.

Just Rat Queens at the moment. Partly because it's good, and partly because Image has digital download policies that don't suck.

I'm not caught up yet but

Ultimate Spider-Man
Batwoman
Red Hood and the Outlaws.

That's about it for what I read regularly. I want to check out Ms. Marvel and the new Miles Morales title.
