Re: I just finished Breaking Bad

I read a review that suggested the last 3 episodes kind of covered all possible endings for the show, as far as Walter was concerned (he disappears; he ends up helpless in exile; he reappears, phantom-like, to key people in a way that adds to his urban legend quality before disappearing again; he sets up a way to accomplish his initial goal of getting money to his family; he admits he did everything for himself; he kills the last major antagonists and releases Jesse; he dies). It was interesting to see in the review's comments where people wanted the ending to fall, iirc Ozymandias was a popular headcanon endpoint.

I did think the actual ending felt a little tidy, too, though, given how everything Walter ever did snowballed beyond his control. Even though one can extrapolate the fallout of everything he does in the last episode, the fallout's not actively presented for once. And as much as I appreciated that his death was shown and the shot of him crumpling in the tank's hazy reflection, part of me wanted him not to get all the way to the lab.

Oh my god, that would have been FANTASTIC.

Hmmm, I like the idea of that for the last 3 episodes. I'll have to see if I can find that review.

Ayrt

I think this was the article (not a review, as I had mistakenly remembered), and it posits that the possible endings extend further back than the last 3 eps, but the idea is there:

I forgot the comments were a bit of a minefield on that article -- some good stuff talking about the final episodes, but also some backlash on the hype Breaking Bad was still getting at the time, etc.
