Saw an implied question posted then deleted, but here's the relevant bit from the mod update that sounds reasonable until you look at what went down.

I also want to reiterate once again that the haste of the actions taken on Friday will not be repeated. However, that does not mean that the kind of behavior that led to the (now temporary) bans will be tolerated. It simply will be handled differently, people will be given warnings and the opportunity to change their behavior and apologize for their actions. Bannings will be a last resort if they choose to ignore and disregard the chances they're given. I don't want anyone to fear being suddenly banned for a single mistake, but nor do I want people to think that acting the way certain people did will be accepted or tolerated here either. It won't be. That much will not change. Only the method of dealing with it will change.

What went down was some people - POCs no less - talked about how they personally weren't offended by a death on a show, didn't think it was a fridging or that the writer/creator was awful for doing it, and praised the actor who's character died when they made a blog post defending the writer/creator/decision from big fan backlash.

Then some other person decided that those people having and expressing those feelings made Spoils an unsafe place for her, because they're invalidating her feelings as a WOC of the same race as the person who died. And then there were immediate bannings with no warnings just a note that "You haven't apologized so now you're banned."

I'm so not sure how to feel about this. On one hand I'm elated that the banhappy shunning behavior has been exposed but on the other I hate that it took super popular people getting banned for it to happen. Not to be all "what about meeeee?" but...what about me? I just disappear like I'd never existed.
