The writing style is quite similar to how Card used to write, but it feels even more methodical and purposeful. While it's languid at times, no part of it feels unnecessary, and it seems to be setting up one hell of a conflict. It also does a very good job of showing just how broken the main character is--I keep thinking of him as this old soul, maybe sixty years old and a veteran of multiple wars, and then he does or says something that reminds me that he's a freaking eleven-year-old who's already done and seen this much shit. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/54464/pericynthion
