I've never heard of the game, so I can't comment on the secret, but that is gorgeous (concept?) art.

The game itself is just as pretty.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-04-05 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I got the pic from here. http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2013/06/03/new-dark-souls-2-art-leaks-adorable-native-indian-guide-in-a-puffball-skirt-suggests-its-borked/ There were so many good pics I had a hard time choosing one. (Ironically, the article in question claimed the art meant the game would be horrible, because some people call "inferior sequel!" very, very quickly.)

The hilarious part is that they didn't casualize it at all. In some ways it's even harder than the original Dark Souls ever was.

Yes, yes "casualise" all the games!

[personal profile] the_missing_y 2014-04-05 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
OT Question.
How casualized is it? Is it any easier?

It isn't any easier at all. The only reason I could possibly see someone make that claim is that it seems easier now that they're used to the mechanics/timing. In many ways it's harder:

-You lose maximum HP every time you die while Hollow (just like in Demon's Souls) right down to 50%

-You can be invaded while Hollow as well now

-Humanity is extremely limited compared to Dark Souls

-They greatly reduced the number of invincibility frames while rolling or backstabbing

-There are far fewer 100% physical defense shields, and they're much harder to come by

-Enemies will eventually disappear for good if you keep killing them, preventing you from farming for souls (farewell, forest ghosts)

What did they actually do to help newcomers?

-Extended the tutorial section so there's more time to learn the mechanics than "here's three guys AND NOW A BOSS"

-Made it more obvious where you were supposed to go at the start of the game

SO CASUAL

My flatmate, who played the first one, says that he thought it was - objectively - just as hard. Only, you know, he knew what he was letting himself in for. He knew the game's mechanics and physics. Hence he seemed to find it less rage-enducingly hard.

I, on the other hand, have never wanted to punch anything quite so intensely as I want to during this game.
