I don't like how social media has allowed fans to interact with celebrities.

Same. It always ends up in embarrassment and regret.

Not always. Some celebrities actually have their social media shit together. Stephen Amell (Arrow) is a good example of this - he does fan Q&A videos quite often, does mild policing of comments (in a "be nice to each other!" kind of way) on his FB page, and genuinely seems to enjoy the interaction.

Yeah and when the happens, there's going to be that part of the fandom that feels entitled to stuff that sends things spiralling downwards.

NAYRT. Yes, this! It always starts out as sunshine and happiness and squees, but it never ends well. All of a sudden I'm thinking of that line from T2, 'it's in your nature to destroy yourselves' or something like that. There is definitely a fandom tendency to self-destruct, taking a good thing and eventually smashing it.

I get so much second hand embarrassment out of how people interact with celebs. I cannot fathom why you would send someone explicit stuff about characters they happen to portray. I usually just hope it's someone trolling fandom and actor alike.

Then again, in my formative fandom, the actors knew about us and did not approve. Back when we legit thought the ownership disclaimer we serious business and you had to send an age waiver to get to any of the good stuff.

Exactly. I know there are some actors out there that project a personality of being ridiculous and loving a good joke (Misha Collins springs to mind), but porn of them and their best friends is so far from a good joke I'm boggled as to how anybody could consider it fun.

It's always a ticking time bomb ready to go off at any moment.

The only time I don't mind interacting between creators/actors/whatever and their fans is when they advertise a project they are working on. Keep the politics out of it. Just tell me what's coming out next. That's all I want to know. Thank you.
