(Anonymous) 2014-04-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)I only saw intermittent episodes of SG-1. I mean, I saw a lot of said episodes, but never in any sort of order. I've no idea what seasons I was even watching.
I watched all of SGA, and mostly liked it, but it had ... It had a kind of colonial overtone that set my teeth on edge? There were points where I legitimately hated characters for some of their decisions. Ronon and Radek were more or less my favourites by the end. And Caldwell, oddly.
SGU managed to lose most of the colonial-style issues from the original and SGA, by virtue of being mostly a closed environment (despite the fact that it's the instalment that actually has an Earth crew establish a literal and permanent colony). The story is focused more on a struggle for survival in a self-contained and perilous environment with no pre-existing occupants left, and most of the alien races they encounter are either a) temporary contact only, or b) pursuing them.
So, despite the rather more vicious interpersonal conflicts in SGU, I actually find it a lot more relaxing to watch.
