Huh. I'd never seen that interpretation before. (You said he admitted it himself? Must have missed that ep). I could see it, I think. He has the detachment, and the flashes of clinical manipulation. And the flashes of sort of terrifying ruthlessness.

If he is one, though, he's a sociopath with a very strong moral/ethical code. And his relationship with Hotch does seem mostly focused with keeping Hotch afloat for Hotch's sake.

I like the idea that he is because I like the idea of a sociopath who exists within the law, working for the law.

Do you remember what episode this was in? I tried googling it but I haven't found anything relating to it yet. If it was just a one off thing then I may just end up pretending it never happened like I did with that weird episode where Penelope thinks Derek date raped her (wtf was that episode??)

I'm sorry to say I have no idea which episode it was in. I tend to only listen to episodes while I'm on the computer. Mum's the one who is the more dedicated fan, but I don't think she'd know which episode it was in either.

I hated that stupid sub plot so much. I think fandom had the same idea as you, because I almost never see anyone discuss it. It's like most us just collectively decided to disregard it, which suits me fine.

Whaaat?! I quit watching (last season? the season before? I can't remember for sure) and that sounds insane. Wtf were the writers thinking?!

It was never stated that way on the show. I didn't even consider that she thought that - I figured she thought they'd had consensual sex and, in her early morning just-woke-up-fog, she'd forgotten.

The situation is that she wakes up and he's in her shower. She kind of freaks out because she was still dating what's his name at the time.
