Fiction can be pure entertainment for someone and a mind-opening experience to someone else and a mix of the two for a third person and something personally meaningful but not really profound to another person and so on and on. I don't think this is something where you can speak in universals.

I like to read things that expose me to different points of view but I don't think that's the Correct way to read. It's just one way that some people find admirable.

You are nuts. Books were created as entertainment. If anything, the concept that they're art arose after. I'm not saying that books can't have a profound effect and that there aren't books that are powerful but the concept that some books are art and therefore removed from the criteria of whether or not they're enjoyable to read is ridiculous. Books exist solely for the pleasure of those who read them.
