Somehow it always gives me the warm fuzzies when people use fandom-related objects to cheer themselves up <3 That's great and nothing to be ashamed of.

I do this with a Sherlock Holmes pipe (which is, by the way, not a calabash). Even though I don't smoke.

As a pipe smoker myself, bless you. In the original canon, he's just got a nice, simple briar. Though I think there was also a reference to a meerschaum someplace? It's been a while.

I admit the calabash is cool-looking; I once read that it crept in via early stage adaptations, because it's easily identifiable from the balcony.

Aww! Yes, as far as I remember, Holmes has a meerschaum, too.

I think pipe-smooking in general looks unbelievably cool. When somebody with a pipe passes me in the street, I actually need to restrain myself from giving them a look full of weird delight because I start thinking of sea adventures and brave captains and Gandalf and Holmes. Which is probably a bit creepy.

I once read that it crept in via early stage adaptations, because it's easily identifiable from the balcony.

That'd be a good explanation. It looks so big compared to other common types of pipes.

OP, I have a bracelet I made that is simply the name of my favourite character in bright colours he would be repulsed by, and it is my safety blanket. There's nothing silly about it, it's great you have something that can even help in the first place!

I have a coffee mug that's a replica of one from one of my favorite sitcoms and it always cheers me up. Especially when I'm drinking coffee out of it at work, it's like I'm secretly cosplaying.

OP, that isn't weird at all. Actually it's pretty cool and clever! I've always wanted a One Ring (Or Nenya!) but never got around to buying one; I'm glad you're enjoying yours and it gives you some comfort.

I like wearing fandom related clothing or jewelry or accessories. (I have an awesome Hobbit tote bag, and a neat Portal necklace, and some Starfleet pins. They make me happy, too.)

I approve of this secret.

I love this <3 I love using fandomy things as part of coping mechanisms. I have a little notebook that I call "Journal of Impossible Things" and I write or draw or just scribble in it when I'm upset. I pretend I'm John Smith and that I'm transcribing my dreams of impossible things that are actually memories. It's probably silly but playing make believe got me through very bad times when I was little. When my life was falling apart a couple of years ago I started doing it again and now I plan to do it forever.

I have my Lego Boromir and Kili pegged to a 3x3 plate, standing in a way so Boromir is pushing a lock of Kili's hair out of his face. It's cute and adorable and makes me happy to look at, and the time it fell over it looked like something porny.

This is a long-winded way of saying I think it's cool to find something soothing or enjoyable in fandom-related stuff, and I also incidentally share a fandom with you.

I wish I could get something I could call my silmarils too. Maybe I should look on Ebay for 2-inch crystal balls. At least two, if not three (I only actively RP two of the silmarils, Eärendil's silmaril, who I call Lossanárë, is still with him).

I just looked at crystal balls. They're expensive.

I got myself two plush unicorns to cuddle when I'm down. One purple so I can pretend it's a Princess Selfrespectra Lunacorn, one pink that's an avatar of The Pink Inivisble Unicorn, only visible. Kind of the opposite of a One Ring, but I like them.
