In fic, I mean. I know whump fic and woobie fic are controversial a lot of the time, but sometimes you just want your H/C fix with your favourite character. So, who are your favourite characters to read whump fic about?

It cycles, depending on what I've over-glutted myself on recently. Usually, however, the toughest, gruffest, snarkiest, BAMFiest characters are the ones with the highest whump-pull for me.

Tony Stark AND Steve Rogers. The main reason I read movieverse Steve/Tony fic is that it's almost always whumping one or the other.

Harry Potter. Dean Winchester. Thorin. I don't always need the comfort, either.

Both Stiles and Derek

Derek Hale. But it absolutely has to include the comfort after the hurt. I cannot get enough of him sacrificing himself or getting beat up or kidnapped and tortured, as long as it ends with people rescuing and taking care of him and loving him afterwards.

Lessee ...

ST:TOS: McCoy. So much. He spent so much of that show being threatened or assaulted (Khan, mirror Spock, primitive Spock, gladiators, etc) and refusing to give a good goddamn. I could read McCoy whump all day.

MCU: Tony, Natasha, Tony & Natasha. They're all fragile and lethal and sardonic, and look awesome bloodied. Also, I'd give a lot for well-handled Fury whump. You have no idea.

Dresden Files: Butters. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm a terrible person, but he's so tiny and scared and brave, he pushes all my buttons.

Hobbit/LotR: Any and all hobbits, though especially Pippin and Bilbo, and then Faramir and Theoden. And I would really love some decent Gandalf whump one of these days.

Pacific Rim: Hermann Gottlieb. Again, I am a terrible person. I just like 'em snarly in the face of danger?

Musketeers: Aramis and/or Porthos. Whenever I come back to this fandom, or any of its variations, I always go looking for Aramis whump.

Once Upon A Time: I don't actually want Emma whump anymore, canon or fanfic. I want to wrap Emma in blankets and, IDEK, eviscerate the next thing that hurts her. Not even kidding.

I usually want the more emotional character A who displays more warmth towards character B than character B does towards them to get hurt&for character B to be the upset caretaker.

Most of the fandom seems to want the opposite, i.e. for the BAMF, unemotional characters to get hurt :/ So I never get much fic.

Mysteriously, the only exception is Bell&Doyle in all their incarnations. Bell whump FTW. I dunno why. With Holmes and Watson it is always Watson I want to be whumped.

Derek Hale, I totally have a stupid boner for seeing him suffer in fic atm(as if the show doesn't love to torment the fucker enough as it is).

Steve Rogers. Give me H/C for him any day. Thor too, but Steve a smidge more.

Or the "stoic" ones. The ones that aren't "obvious" to H/C. Especially when there's an older sibling complex thrown in there. :D Basically I like the "strongest" characters whumped over the "weaker" ones. Don't know why, exactly, but I do. :3

Spock. Faramir. Batman. Nightwing. All of the X-Men characters (but especially Rogue and Magneto).

The Batman and X-Men comics both have a LOT of canon whump, so I don't necessarily have to go to fanfic to get my fix!

Yes to Magneto whump. I somehow never manage to find the good ones, though.

Bobby Drake from X-men (comics, cartoon and movies)

Mike Weston from The Following (fortunately the show is pretty sadistic to its characters so there's plenty of canon whump for him)

The fifth Doctor. I... was not prepared for The Caves of Androzani.

Bucky Barnes (Marvel), Thor (Marvel), Stiles Stilinski (Teen Wolf), (haven't seen it yet, but I'd greatly enjoy) Dorian (Almost Human), Kotetsu (Tiger and Bunny), Thorin (The Hobbit). I always liked to see Rodney and Sheppard from SGA whumped equally.

Oh, and Charles Xavier in First Class fic because hot damn McAvoy is pretty when he cries.

As a general guideline, the tougher (attitude-wise, not necessarily physically) they are, the more I like it. However, there are a lot of exceptions, usually depending on canon-context.

And sometimes, my whump-craving gets its kicks from seeing a character's mental suffering by proxy from seeing his/her friend hurt, rather than from the friend getting hurt. In these cases, I tend towards preferring to see the tougher one's mental anguish.

Steve Rogers; he's durable and heals well, so I don't feel much real worry for him, but also it's a chance for him to be vulnerable and taken care of.

Don Eppes. IDK man, he's always stoic FBI-guy to Charlie's flighty brain guy and I like people mixing it up.

Rodney McKay. I kind of have a thing for people who bitch about small injuries but clam up about actual big worrisome ones, it's weird I know. Also I love team!fic and that's usually a component, whumpage of one of more members. (BTW, anyone who likes team!fic and whumped Rodney definitely has to check out Tipper's fics! She's the actual best, for Mag7 fic too ^^)

I have recently admitted to myself that I have a real weakness for J/7 hurt/comfort with Seven as the injured party. It's silly and cliched and embarrassing and I eat it up like kibble.

Castiel.

Raleigh Becket, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes...

I have a thing for iron woobies.

Oooh, I'd love me some Raleigh Beckett whumpage. Got any recs?
